Rhodes is a strong holiday option that combines history, beaches and nightlife on the same island. Because it is large, instead of squeezing the city centre and Lindos into the same day without a plan, it is best to split them into areas.
Old Town and Mandraki
The walled Old Town on the UNESCO list, Knights' Street and the Palace of the Grand Masters are the main stops. Mandraki Harbour and the new town are suitable for an evening stroll.
Lindos and the east coast
The white houses and acropolis of Lindos should be visited early in the morning. Anthony Quinn Bay, Tsambika and the area around Faliraki each have a different beach atmosphere. Slow down during the midday heat in summer.
Transport and accommodation
It is possible to stay without a car in the city centre; however, for distant beaches you will need bus timetables or a car rental plan. Three nights in the central spots, or four to five nights, offers a more balanced holiday.
Checklist
• Wear shoes suitable for stone pavements in the Old Town.
• Go to Lindos early in the morning.
• Check the parking and car insurance conditions.
Planning note
If you plan to enter at the port with a visa on arrival, follow the current document schedule of the port and the ferry company. You can also consider Rhodes as part of a Greek Islands cruise route.
