Mostar, with its historic fabric and iconic bridge spanning both banks of the Neretva River, is one of the most impressive stops on the Balkan routes. The city center can be explored on foot; however, the stone pavement calls for comfortable shoes.
MOSTAR BRIDGE
See the bridge not only by crossing it, but also from the viewpoints along the riverbank. Early morning and late afternoon are times when the crowds feel lighter.
OLD BAZAAR
Known as Kujundžiluk, the bazaar has copperware, souvenirs and small cafés. Clarify prices and product details before buying. Take short photo stops in the narrow streets, but do not miss your group's meeting time.
VIEWPOINTS
The area around the Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque and the riverside terraces are preferred for views of the bridge. Since there may be stairs and narrow passages, travelers with mobility limitations should get information in advance.
WHAT TO EAT?
Ćevapi, börek and local sweets are options worth trying during a short visit. On busy tour days, the streets just outside the main square may be quieter for a meal.
HOW MANY HOURS SHOULD YOU ALLOCATE?
Three to four hours provides a basic visit covering the bridge, the bazaar and the riverside area. If you want to add the museum and viewpoints, half a day is more comfortable. In summer's midday heat, plan shaded breaks.
Mostar is included in most Balkan tours on the same route as Sarajevo, Blagaj or Počitelj. Check how much free time the itinerary gives at each stop when choosing a tour. You can compare Balkan tour options that feature routes covering Mostar according to your schedule.
