Aegean cruise routes offer the chance to compare the atmospheres of different islands in just a few days. Short routes may seem easy for a first experience, but port times and overnight sailing can be intense.
Classic route stops
Mykonos nightlife, Santorini views, Rhodes historical fabric, Patmos tranquility and Crete's wide range of excursion options appeal to different expectations. On the route, look at the arrival and departure times rather than just the names of the islands.
Choosing the season
July and August are hot and crowded. May-June and September-October may offer more balanced weather and a more comfortable port experience; however, sea and sailing conditions are variable.
Short or long route?
Routes of three to four nights provide an economical entry point but the pace is high. Programs of seven nights or more offer rest opportunities with sea days. For a first cruise, it is useful to spend at least one full day experiencing the ship.
Checklist
• Mark the ports where tenders are used.
• Do not plan a flight with a late-night return.
• Choose one main experience per island.
Planning note
The route, ports and times may change based on the cruise company's operational decisions.
